Exactly Right
This book is exactly what it says it is. The author gives instruction for finding detail that makes your drawing lifelike. She covers every aspect of the face and adds hair, hands, and clothing detail instructions. I have purchased other instruction books by Lee Hammond, but this is my favorite. My art has improved 1,000% and I believe will help as I move to painting.
Very Educational and Inspiring
Drawing and painting for many years, I thought I had average portrait skills until I purchased this book. Wow, what talent, Lee's skills are amazing; I was certainly humbled. I have read about 75% of the book so far, but without doing any of the exercised, yet. I purchased the recommended materials and completed my first portrait using her technique. What a difference! I highly recommend Lee's book. No matter what your skill level, you'll find improvement with this book.
Now That I'm Not a Teenager
When I was young, I considered pursuing an understanding of art and drawing. I should have had this book then...brilliant content and adaptable to learning. It's amazing Lee Hammond doesn't have a DVD out yet and even more amazing that in this media-strong age I was able to learn from a book. Her examples are delectably inspiring.
I'd like to add an edit to say that my interactions with Lee in person via email have proven to be inspiring too - she's a kind and helpful lady. She has a new DVD out and I recommend it.
