Best Mexican cookbook I have ever seen
This book is probably the best cookbook I have ever used. The pages and pictures are large, the recipes are easy to read, and the accompanying history is welcome. I only wished it came as a hard bound book. Bought a used copy in great condition for under $50.

I have lived away from Mexico for a while and i was thrilled when i finally bought a new copy of this cookbook that my mother and nanny go back to when they need a specific mexican recipe.
Thank god there is a translated version so you cannot go wrong when buying ingredients here in the US!
A Culinary Adventure You Won't Want to Miss!
Of the various books that made up this series, this one by far is the most appealing. The text, use of photography, and clarity of recipes make each of these dishes accessible and highly enjoyable. Susanna Palazuelos' recipes are a culinary tour de force throughout Mexico, showing how the ethnic, cultural, and geographic diversity of this country indelibly influences its food. The recipes are not simply presented on the page but are brought to you with careful explanation of the history of the dish and the cultural context in which it was created.
Many of these dishes are unavailable in restaurants in the United States, which is truly unfortunate. Also, while substitutions are mentioned these are carefully crafted meals, so substitutions should be kept to a minimum. There are an increasing number of purveyors of specialty Mexican herbs and spices, so finding many of the main ingredients should not prove difficult, especially for on-line shoppers. Also, many chain and gourmet grocery stores are stocking an increasingly wide variety of Mexican products regardless of your location.
This is a must have book. I would round out this section of my cookbook collection with Elisabeth Lambert Ortiz's two cookbooks, especially if the first one can be found. Whether you are familiar with the authentic cuisine of this country or not, Mexico, The Beautiful Cookbook, is a gateway for remarkable dining experiences right in your own home.
