no interest
After enjoying Sea Glass and The Pilot's Wife, this was a great let-down. In particular, the language annoyed me from page 1. I don't mind if the quoted, spoken text aimed to reproduce a style from c.1899, but really hated when the rest of the text (the author's words) also did so... I will be much more careful of this author in future.
EXCELLENT READ!!!
I absolutely LOVED this book!! It was a page turner and kept my interest throughout. The depth and development of the characters was very good. I have read only a few Anita Shreve's books and this one is the best so far. I would highly recommend it.
Awesome Fiction!
I just finished reading this for the second time and I still love it! Anita Shreve often writes about provocative subjects and this does not disappoint. John Hawkins would be a registered sex offender in this day and age but this story takes place in 1900 so only the young Olympia gets blamed.
