A Good Read
This was an enjoyable read. The first part of the book bothered me because I thought the heroine was somewhat irritating. But once I got over that, I enjoyed it. I have to say I do not like women with men's names. Referring to Henrietta as 'Henry' really bothered me, especially since Dunford was always called by his last name. That made me think every so often that he was the one being talked about. But really that's a minor negative. Again, Julia Quinn's books sparkle with humor, really allowing one to imagine the conversations actually taking place. I loved the misunderstanding at the end of the book and how it was handled. I enjoyed Dunford in Splendid and Minx, and was so glad that he got his own story.
A must read for romance lovers!
Tender, sweet, funny and beautifully written. The characters are multi-dimensional, the plot fast paced, and the premise charming. I cannot recommend this book and this author enough!
Worth Reading, But Not Worth Owning
I love Julia Quinn and have read everything she has written. Most of her books are funny, heartwarming and worth rereading. However, this book was just "okay". The two main characters were boring and the story has been done before. Girl meets man, falls in love. Man resists girl, insisting pompously that he knows what is best for her. Eventually he comes around and the wedding is planned. Crisis happens causing a misunderstanding. Man is cruel to girl but they both secretly still love each other. Finally they communicate and live happily ever after.
There was no depth to the story at all and the crisis at the end was stupid and forced. Seeing previous characters again makes Minx worth reading, but not worth owning.
