Mark This One A "Winner"
Well, Brenda Keyes 1993 book is as classic as I'd hoped for. It is an Alphabet book that becomes a Sampler. Few other motifs are used but she does add some simple florals here and there which compliment the piece being worked beautifully. The focus is as stated. Her samplers are composed of alphabets; historical and contemporary. The diverse lettering itself is well worth the investment. And, her examples of bringing contemporary colors to the mix make the book as alive with possibilities for the next umpteen years as it is today. Brenda has the unique gift of presenting opportunities to make her designs your own and she has done it again in this book.
A gorgeous book
This book is beautiful -- it could almost double as a coffee table book! The projects are suitable for all sorts of occasions and are all easily customizable. I highly recommend this book to any cross-stitcher, regardless of skill level -- it could keep you busy for the next two years!
I was inspired.
There are color photos of each design, black and white charts, a stitch directory, instructions and finishing techniques. The 15 alphabets include: traditional, floral, Assisi, lower case and Victorian. There is a conversion chart of DMC to Anchor. The 40 designs in this book are inspiring and I am always looking for alphabets to stitch.
