fit for real people
As anyone who sews knows, Palmer/Pletsch is one of the best, and this is one of the best of their books, as it covers, not just tops, or bottoms, but all aspects of fitting, on real people and how they choose their pattern size, and then go about adjusting it to get a good fit.
One of the fitting books I probably refer to most, even if I choose not to use their method, its good to understand what is going on.
Fit for Real People
The authors begin by analyzing early and pevious alteration methods explaing why those did not work, which I thought
beneficial.
The diagrams are easy to read and follow, with important infomation in bold type.
The use of photographs showing the process in 3 dimension along with 2-dimension illustrations gives a more complete guide.
A sewer-friendly book.
Helpful as part of a collection...
This book gives some good ideas, especially about how to make the bust fit you better. However, I have a few other books, and have combined methods from all of them. This book has you fit a pattern with the tissue pieces, which is fine, if you are only going to use a pattern for one person, but personally, I glue mine to large pieces of paper, so that it is stable enough to use over and over again, in different sizes. Their methods don't work when you stiffen up your pattern.
If you sew for yourself, and need to do everything on your own, this book and these ladies' method will work well. Otherwise, do like me, and get yourself a collection of pattern fitting and making books. Pick and choose which techniques you like, and put together your own method.
