HOLIER THAN THOU PROSELYTIZING
The central theme here is vegan snobbery, which flies in the face of the universal compassion that is the alleged message. The extreme preachy presentation is likely to send potential vegans running to the meat counter. I've read several books and cookbooks on veganism, and never have I seen such blatant elitism. One example is the insistence that vegetarianism is "strictly a dietary issue," not the saintly lifestyle choice that veganism is. What a slap in the face to vegetarians who make this choice almost universally for multiple reasons, including compassionate values. Furthermore, the book is dry and repetitive. Nevertheless I give it two stars for containing some useful information here and there.
For considerably more depth and breadth, and rich and substantive treatment of ethical eating in general and veganism in particular, I recommend World Peace Diet: Eating for Spiritual Health and Social Harmony by Will Tuttle.
Vegan Being Pretty Good
This book is fairly average. It has good information on nutrition and foods. But a lot of it is obvious or can be found for free on the web at places like:
[...]
However if you want some basic information I'd look into it.
Great.
Simple and to the point. A great resource for new vegans or those who are interested in becoming vegan. Eloquently written.
