Great food made easy.

This is a great cookbook. I have been vegan for many years and have LOTS of vegan cookbooks. This is one of the first ones I bought back when it all vegan for me - and it's one book that I keep coming back to - mainly because the recipes are simple and delicious. Simple is always appreciated, if you are like me and want to get in and out of the kitchen quickly with not too much mess left behind. One word of caution - there are many soy/tofu based recipes in this book that are easy to make and delicious - so as tempting as it may be, just remember, a vegan should not live on soy alone - be sure to mix it up with recipes from other great whole foods based cookbooks.

Very Disappointed

Sadly I am very disappointed with this book. It is easy to be drawn in by the colourful and appetizing cover, only to find that the headings of each recipe are not only bizarre, and trying to be clever with titles, but also the layout, the contents etc are very confusing. With titles such as 'Rabbit Shake' and 'Tofufudgeslices' (found on page 179) - yes, written as one word with a font that adds to all the confusion - it doesn't work on any level. Then other vulgar titles such as 'Burning Butt Buritos' - not exactly appetizing, and again trying to sound avant-garde and unique - it doesn't work. No pics in this book of the recipes - that is not the reason for my not liking it -but just to let you know, it's not pictorial. Altogether written in an uncouth style. I am by no means prim and proper, nor am I prudish - quite the opposite - but this is simply distasteful in so many ways, ie its style, contents and recipes.

As for the recipes themselves, they are bland, often many of them are "chuck the ingredients all together and your recipe is ready". Honesly, don't waste your money on this book, spend a few more minutes searching and put your money to better use.

Needless to say I am sending my copy back after examing the contents and trying out 6 random recipes from the book. It is a hassle to have to send this book back, pay for the postage and waste valuable time getting to the post office. TRUST ME DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY , DON'T BUY THIS BOOK !!!

I know a thing or two about cooking as I have come from a thread of restaurant owners. It runs in the family, and we are both very discerning, and yet always happy to try out new recipes and different cuisines. THUMBS DOWN !

Excellent! Finally more than ok tasting recipes!

As a vegetarian I have found it hard to find good cookbooks that produce more than okay food.
I try to eat vegan when I can because dairy specifically milk, sour cream and cheese do a number to my stomach for days. But most vegan food I have tried has been okay at best. I have made the upside down chocolate cake which is like lava cake, bean dip, and peppermint patties. OMG all are amazing! I have never had better peppermint patties. York has got nothing on these! You would never think these are vegan or even vegetarian. They are simply amazing!
I am not one for complicated or hard to follow recipes but anyone can do this.
