For Norm fans
I have been a fan of Norm's since I was 16 yrs old and the New Yankee Workshop first aired. I did not know him as well from This Old House at that time. That being said, I did not read this book until a few years ago, and had I read it 10 yrs ago it may have helped me more. It really is geared to Norm's fans and to people who may be thinking of the carpentry trade(building, not furniture making).
The book has many descriptions and basic instructions for the hand tools that not only Norm, but any carpenter, would keep in his tool box. It also gives a little personal insight into Norm himself, which is nice for his fans. The book is thoughtfully written and the pride that Norm has in his work shows through. Yet if you have been using tools for a while most of the info will probably be redundant. However, like some of the other reviewers, I have re-read this book several times because it is an enjoyable read, and anybody who takes pride in his or her work is somebody to be admired.
All in all, as a general carpentry book 3 stars, as a book for Norm fans, 4 stars. Worth it if you also are a hand tool enthusiast.
great biography
This is an amazing book. If you know anything about carpentry, woodworking, or life you can relate to this book. It is worth the read no matter your occupation.
Perfect Gift
My husband loved this book so much, he couldn't put it down. He finished it the day after Christmas.
